A brand new, state of the art GP practice in Bournville has opened its doors and welcomed its first patients.

College Green Medical Practice officially opened on 26 April. The modern, dementia-friendly health centre brings together BG Health and Granton Medical centre) with staff coming together to provide  care in more fit-for-purpose facilities. 

The first patient through the door was Phillipa Abbott, 68, from Bournville. A former patient at Granton, Chris Bennnett was delighted to see the new facilities in person. And said coming from West Heath just took her 2 minutes longer than to Granton.

They said: “This is a brilliant development for Bournville and South Birmingham, one we’ve been anticipating for some time, as it means we can come and see health professionals in a brighter and more modern environment. It also feels much safer than the older, more cramped buildings especially considering the COVID-19 restrictions. It’s also got much more parking and lifts which is great! And as usual, I got fantastic treatment from the same teams I’m used to seeing.”

As well as general medical services, the new building allows staff at College Green Medical Practice to offer further support including COVID-19 vaccination, contraceptive services, minor surgery excisions of small lumps and lumps, cryotherapy, joint injections, drug and alcohol support services and enhanced services to care homes in the area.

The more spacious environment also means it can support a bigger, multi-disciplinary team including clinical pharmacists, social prescribers, a drug and alcohol support worker and care co-ordinators. 

Aditi Gupte, a GP from College Green Medical Practice, said: “We’re thrilled to have officially opened our doors and start welcoming patients who need a face-to-face appointment in a safer and more appropriate setting. It’s not only a great thing for our patients, to whom we can provide even better care, but it makes for a much more modern working environment for our teams too. We’re looking forward to being able to utilise the new space to its full capacity and would like to thank everyone who has been involved in developing the new health centre.”
